SoCalGas Company Puts Forward its Angeles Link Plan

From CD12 Councilmember John Lee:

Yesterday, the Southern California Gas Company put forward its Angeles Link plan that will create the United States’ largest Green Hydrogen Energy Infrastructure System, which will significantly help end our dependence on the Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility.

Ending the region’s reliance on Aliso Canyon in a responsible manner has been one of my top priorities as your Councilmember. I know all too well the dangers of having this facility in our backyard, as my family was one of thousands in Council District 12 that personally dealt with the harmful impacts of the 2015 Aliso Canyon gas leak.

Angeles Link is the first real proposal I’ve seen that can substantially decrease the need for natural gas with green energy without compromising grid reliability. This proposal has received the support of elected officials from both sides of the aisle, utility workers, academics and leaders of our local business community. I support the goals of this proposal because it will help us get closer to achieving the City’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2035 without compromising energy reliability or hurting jobs.

This is a positive first step by SoCalGas toward meeting my continued demands that the utility develop a better vision for the region, one that includes facilitating the ultimate closure of Aliso Canyon. While there is much work ahead as this plan progresses, you have my commitment that I will continue to hold SoCalGas accountable to a proposal that will protect our neighborhoods. Click here to learn more about the proposal.
