Critical Point in Ongoing Repairs, Full Cooperation of Residents Needed to Aid Ongoing Efforts
The Granada Hills North Neighborhood Council wants to share the latest update from LADWP regarding ongoing water service repairs affecting Granada Hills and Porter Ranch. Crews have made significant progress, but the work has reached a critical stage. Residents in the affected area must avoid using any tap water until further notice. Any water use will slow repairs, delay repressurizing the system, and push back required water quality testing before the Boil Water Notice can be lifted.
Earlier this evening, LADWP crews began preparing to replace a broken valve by emptying the pipe connected to the temporary water source. While this was scheduled for 8 p.m., the pipe broke around 5 p.m., spilling water onto the street. Pumps and valves have now been shut off. The temporary water source has been disconnected, so water supply in the system is very limited. It is important that all taps, sprinklers, and pool filling systems remain off to help restore full service more quickly.
WATER QUALITY RESTORATION
Water quality testing will begin as soon as possible, in coordination with the Division of Drinking Water. Testing and reporting requirements involve sending water samples to a lab, with results expected in about 18 hours. These steps must be completed before the Boil Water Notice can be lifted. The notice, along with FAQs and an interactive address lookup tool, is available at www.ladwp.com/WaterQuality.

BACKGROUND ON WATER LOSS AND ONGOING REPAIR WORK
On August 5, a valve broke during repairs at a pump station connected to a 10-million-gallon water tank serving our area. This stopped the flow into a major 54-inch water main. Service has been disrupted in the area roughly bounded by Rinaldi Avenue to the south, Balboa Blvd to the east, De Soto Ave to the west, and the foothills to the north.
We know this has been very disruptive. LADWP crews are working around the clock to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. GHNNC will continue to share updates and resources so our community stays informed.
