Update: Aliso Canyon Gas Leak

On Friday, October 23, during normal operations, SoCalGas crews found a leak at a natural gas storage well at the Aliso Canyon field. In response, SoCalGas activated the proper procedures, alerted public officials and began addressing the leak. The leak poses no threat to public safety. Scientists agree natural gas is not toxic, and the leak is outdoors at an isolated mountain area more than a mile away from and more than 1,200 feet above homes or public areas. In outdoor locations such as this, natural gas quickly dissipates into the air. More than 100 experts and highly-trained personnel are working to stop the leak as quickly as safety will allow.
